Can You Handle This Pitch?

The pitch with which Jehovah told Noah to cover the ark within and without: What was it? Where did the stuff come from in Noah's time?

The Hebrew word translated "pitch" in some Bible translations is "kopher" (transliteration). In the noun form the word simply means a "covering". The verb form of this word is "kaphar" - to cover. It is most often translated "pitch" and is translated other ways, e.g. tar (NLT), asphalt (LitV), cypress (YLT), etc. My personal opinion is that it was a resinous substance of some kind, i.e. an organic substance secreted from plants or trees.
