Banana peels do appear to yield fruit flies and manure does appear to yield maggots. It was a scientific hypothesis.

It's one thing to say, Based on controlled experimentation, this (spontaneous generation) is how we THINK (postulate, believe) live may have began. It is far another thing to speak of the origin of life as a fact, when there was no one there to make the initial "observation" and form the initial hypothesis.

Thought-Provoking Thought: If one cannot believe the Bible with what it has to say relative to the various scientific disciplines, how can one believe the Bible with what it has to say about Jesus?
Matthew Fontaine Maury (1835) read Psalm 8 as a young man, verse 8 caught his attention, ?... the fish that swim the paths of the seas.? Based on his belief (faith) in God?s Word he went on to discovery these ?paths?, i.e. Cannery Current, Gulf Stream, California Current, etceteras. He became the Father of Oceanography. A statue of him appears in his home town with him holding charts in one hand and the Bible in the other.
