8)I am almost feeling guilty, as I?m in a motel in Denver and will fly out tomorrow to Tucson, then Phoenix, then California, and then back to Tucson -------- no snow, AND I have my golf clubs with me!

"... have to have some faith in the world around me." PRECISELY!!!!!!!

Scientific Method Defined: Principles and procedures for the systematic pursuit of knowledge involving the recognition and formulation of a problem, the collection of data through observation and experiment, and the formulation and testing of hypotheses. (Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary) "Observation" is the key word.

Spontaneous Generation: Prior to the time of the Italian physician Redi (1668), life was popularly believed to emerge spontaneously from lifeless decaying matter. The idea was held by such notable figures as Newton, Aristotle, ? Harvey, Plato, Copernicus, Galileo, Bacon, Hegel, and Schelling. This belief, known as spontaneous generation, gave rise to such novel notions as the origin of geese from barnacles, mice from dirty undergarments, and bees from dead calves, and drew its credibility from observations. Banana peels do appear to yield fruit flies and manure does appear to yield maggots. It was a scientific hypothesis.
(A.I. Oparin: Life: Its Nature, Origin and Development, Edinburgh: Oliver and Boyd, 1961, p. 13) "appear" (observation) - key word

Additional Definition: "Spontaneous Generation, in biology, is the theory, now disproved, that living organisms at present arise from non living matter. It is sometimes referred to as abiogenesis, as opposed to biogenesis, the now-established fact that living organisms arise only from the reproduction of previously existing organisms.?
(Encyclopedia Britannica, Vol. 21, p. 55, 1969)

Consider Dr. George Wald, winner of the 1967 Nobel Peace Prize in Science:"When it comes to the origin of life on this earth, there are only two possibilities: Creation or Spontaneous Generation (Evolution). There is no third way. Spontaneous Generation was disproved 100 years ago, but that leads us only to one other conclusion: that of supernatural creation. We cannot accept that on philosophical grounds [personal reasons]; therefore, we choose to believe the impossible: that life arose spontaneously by chance." [emphasis added] ("The Dinosaur Dilemma," Christ for the Nations, vol. 35, no. 8, November, 1982)

Philosophy Defined: ??a search for a general understanding of values and reality by chiefly speculative rather than observational means.? [emphasis added] (Webster?s New Collegiate Dictionary) "rather than observational means" - key words

Religion Defined: ?a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith.? (Webster?s New Collegiate Dictionary)

It's one thing to say, Based on controlled experimentation, this (spontaneous generation) is how we THINK (postulate, believe) live may have began. It is far another thing to speak of the origin of life as a fact, when there was no one there to make the initial "observation" and form the initial hypothesis.

I do not have the references with me for the following quotes, but can supply them when I return home from these engagements in approximately twelve days:

Johann Kepler, Founder of Physical Astronomy (1571-1630)"Since we astronomers are priests of the highest God in regard to the book of nature, it befits us to be thoughtful, not of the glory of our minds, but rather, above all else, of the glory of God."

Francis Bacon, Founder of the Scientific Method (1561-1626)"There are two books laid before us to study, to prevent our falling into error; first, the volume of the Scriptures, which reveal the will of God; then the volume of the Creatures, which express His power."

Isaac Newton, Laws of Motion & Law of Gravitation (1642-1727)"We account the Scriptures of God to be the most sublime philosophy. I find more sure marks of authenticity in the Bible than in any profane history whatsoever."

Michael Faraday, Founder of Physical Astronomy (1791-1867)"The Bible, and it alone, with nothing added to it nor taken away from it by man, is the sole and sufficient guide for each individual, at all times and in all circumstances...Faith in the divinity and work of Christ is the gift of God, and the evidence of this faith is obedience to the commandment of Christ."

Wernher von Braun (1912-1977)"Manned space flight is an amazing achievement, but it has opened for mankind thus far only a tiny door for viewing the awesome reaches of space. An outlook through this peephole at the vast mysteries of the universe should only confirm our belief in the certainty of its Creator. I find it as difficult to understand a scientist who does not acknowledge the presence of a superior rationality behind the existence of the universe as it is to comprehend a theologian who would deny the advances of science."

Thought-Provoking Thought: If one cannot believe the Bible with what it has to say relative to the various scientific disciplines, how can one believe the Bible with what it has to say about Jesus?

Matthew Fontaine Maury (1835) read Psalm 8 as a young man, verse 8 caught his attention, ?... the fish that swim the paths of the seas.? Based on his belief (faith) in God?s Word he went on to discovery these ?paths?, i.e. Cannery Current, Gulf Stream, California Current, etceteras. He became the Father of Oceanography. A statue of him appears in his home town with him holding charts in one hand and the Bible in the other.

Yes, it was Plato - The Cave

When you have a chance, please read over my information: ?The Scientific Age of Earth? It?s in my notebook, which can be accessed from the Home Page. (The Notebook is there in its? entirety.)
