Topography

Post by Skepti Que »

What was the topography of earth before the flood? Were there no mountains and few hills? How about ocean trenches? Are the present upheavals and down collapsings in the earth's crust the result of geophysical forces at work in the flood? Did the orientation of the axis of rotation relative to earth's orbit change during the flood?

Topography Before Flood

Post by Dr. John Nay »

:D Topography:

I don?t know, although it appears to me that a global flood such as the one described in Genesis could well account for what we see today. There is a passage in Psalm 104,6-8, NASB, that suggests major topographical changes for Earth at the close of the flood. Personally, I choose to believe that the topography was user friendly for humans, i.e. not large mountains or canyons.

Trenches:

Again, I don?t know. Perhaps they existed prior to the flood or were caused by the seismic activity associated with the flood.

Axis of Earth:

Some suggest that this is ?how? God initiated the flood. There is a passage that some use in support of this view (Job 38:13). Personally, although I would ?like to?, I can?t get this from the context of this passage. From what I?ve read from various sources, it doesn?t appear that the ?canopy? would have remained in place if there were much temperature variation, suggesting a different axis prior to the flood. The suggestion of Earth being on a different axis at one time is not just a creation science view. Various scientific disciplines suggest the same in order to account for temperate climate foliage (and animals) found in frigid regions of Earth. :D
