Here is a short quote from a fascinating article about a fishing reel, about 100 years old maximum, based on it's invention, embedded in a rock that dates to about 300 million years old. There are some photos in the article as well.
There is also a link to the whole article.

"Over twenty-five years ago, Dan Jones was trout fishing in the Tellico River. It was there he stumbled across something that still leaves geologists scratching their heads. He stated: "I just walked up on a sandbar and it was laying there with water slapping up on it" (as quoted in Simms, 2004). What did Dan Jones find? It was a simple fishing reel?partially embedded in rock (known as phyllite) believed to be about 300 million years old (according to evolution-based dating systems)."

No Surprise

SQ, thank you for the great post!
Approximately ten years ago I had a geologist that took the creation science course that I taught at the College. He became so upset that he literally walked out of the class room about a third of the way through the course. He called me a couple of years ago to tell me that he had changed his view relative to the age of Earth and the Universe. Please note that this did not happen overnight, but was the result of seeds that had been planted whereby he began to question the axiom of an old earth/universe little-by-little.
Is it possible that the rock is NOT 300 million years old? Is it possible that Earth is NOT 4.6 billion years old? Is it possible that the Universe is NOT 18-20 billion years old? Is it possible that when the LORD said six days He meant six days?

So where is the magic rock and reel now? A metamorphic rock thought to be 300 million years old now is claimed to be 100 years old? I don't think so.
think about it, metamorphic rocks form under great pressure and heat. So someplace inTennessee 100 years ago there was enough pressure and heat to form this rock and not destroy the reel? Try again, sports fans.
Get over it, the earth is not 6000 years +/- old nor was it created in 6 literal days.
Learn some science.

A retraction and better photographs of the reel story
If you read the lead post in this thread and click on the link you will read a retraction of the referenced story. I don't know if the original story exists anywhere else or not.
There are some better resolution photographs following the text of the note of retraction.
So now where does that leave us in the discussion of the reel in the rock story?

Retraction?

I've just returned from my April/May schedule. I found it refreshing to have several from the scientific community that not only believed in God and Jesus Christ, but the inspiration of the Bible --- to include a young Earth and global flood.
