Evolution Answer: The Creation Viewpoint is based on faith and the Evolution Viewpoint is based on science (fact).
Let's look at the assumption that Evolution is science in light of the Scientific Method.
Scientific Method Defined: Principles and procedures for the systematic pursuit of knowledge involving the recognition and formulation of a problem, the collection of data through observation and experiment, and the formulation and testing of hypotheses. (Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary)
Particularly note in the above definition ??through observation and experiment, ?? It begins with an observation.
Who was there to see the creation take place?
Answer: Only God
The Scientific Method involves working with three terms that we must understand. The First of these terms is hypothesis.
1. Hypothesis: You observe what appears to you as a phenomenon and you form a guess (hypothesis) as to why it happened. The only difference between a guess and an hypothesis is that an hypothesis is a guess based on an observation that you are going to test with the Scientific Method.
Explanation: You observe an apple fall from a tree and don't know why it fell. You guess that something pulled it down (gravity). Now you are going to test your hypothesis to see as to whether there is any validity to it.
Have you ?observed? a pattern to this point?
hypothesis - "A tentative assumption made in order to draw out and test its logical or empirical consequences." (Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary)
Note: It is a tentative assumption. It is assumed to be true for testing purposes.
2. Theory: A theory, under the Scientific Method, is an hypothesis that, through controlled experimentation, has been demonstrated to have some validity to it.
Explanation: You drop an apple and it goes down. You do it again, and it goes down. You continue to drop apples and they all go down. Your hypothesis that apples (when not attached to something) are pulled down by something (gravity) has validity to it. Therefore, your hypothesis has become a scientific theory.
Note: If, when the hypothesis was tested, it was demonstrated to be without validity (wrong), it must be discarded and a new hypothesis formed.
When one refers to the Theory of Evolution, the word ?theory? can only be used to mean ?idea?, because the initial hypothesis was NOT based on an observation.
3. Scientific Law: A scientific law is a theory that has been demonstrated (through controlled experimentation) to be without contradiction or exception.
Once again, all of this begins with an observed phenomenon.
Sooooooo, evolution does NOT qualify under the Scientific Method in that the beginning of life was NOT observed. Both "ideas", Creation/Evolution, are based on "faith." Praise the Lord He has given us a reasonable faith that makes perfect sense when we view the wonders of His awesome creation!
